Police are seeking the public's help in locating a Tillamook County man who went missing while driving to the Portland area on Thursday.

Richard Werner, 76, and his wife had taken separate cars to travel from Tillamook County to Northeast Portland. The couple became separated in the Hillsboro area around 11 a.m., Portland police said in a release.

Werner's family contacted police after his wife arrived at their destination, but Werner did not.

Werner suffers from a heart condition and diabetes, and his family told Portland police they worried he had experienced a medical emergency, or become lost or stranded.

He was driving a white, 4-door Chevrolet pickup truck with dual exhaust pipes and the Oregon license plate VYD 323.

Two Pomeranian dogs, one with black fur and one with white, had been traveling in the cab of the truck with him.

Anyone with information of Werner or his vehicle's whereabouts is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately. Anyone with additional information is asked to call Detective Mike Weinstein of the Portland Missing Persons Unit at  503-823-0446 .

A 42-year-old Portland man was reported missing by family members on Friday after he went for a drive alone and didn't return, police said.

James Lund was last seen on Thursday, when he told his family he was planning to take a drive within Mount Hood National Forest. Lund did not specify where he was going, police said.

Cellphone records reviewed by detectives indicate Lund may have been west of Highway 26, northwest of Warm Springs, at some point after he left home.

Lund had at first mentioned visiting Ape Cave in Washington State near Mt. St Helens, but changed his mind and said he wanted to stay within Oregon, family members told police.

He has been known to frequently visit areas south of Government camp and the Bagby Hot Springs area, police said.

Lund's family told police it was very unusual him not to contact them or return home at the end of the day.

The Warm Springs Police Department assisted Portland police in the search, but found no signs of Lund or his vehicle in the area.

Lund is described as 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, with receding short-cropped blonde hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeve black knit jacket with a zipper over a black T-shirt, blue jeans and black and gray tennis shoes. He also is said to be wearing a cream-colored baseball cap with a red, white and black logo on the front.

Lund is believed to be driving a black 2005 Honda Element SUV, with the Oregon license plate number 294BSY.

Anyone with information about Lund's immediate whereabouts is asked to call 9-1-1. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective Mike Weinstein of the Portland Police Bureau at  503-823-0446 .
